The word “community” can mean a lot of different things. Sometimes it’s the neighborhood you live in. Sometimes it’s the industry you work in. Sometimes it’s just the places that you normally shop.
This week at church, Pastor Susie reminded us that community is where you give and receive support. I like her definition, because I believe we all need to be part of a community in this world in order to truly feel connected.
We all, at one time or another, need support. For all the other times, we should be giving of ourselves and our resources freely.
For a beautiful example of community in action, check out this video.
Elizabeth Hughes Sings National Anthem
Here was this brave 8 year old girl, getting up in front of a crowd of thousands and singing our national anthem when the microphone cut off. Instead of the crowd laughing or staring, they stepped up and saw her through a glorious finish. It took the whole crowd at the Norfolk Admirals stadium banding together to finish our national anthem.
Now that is a community I want to belong to.
What can you do to be an active member of your community?
